US Ski Areas Begin 4th of July Celebrations
Three US ski areas will be open on the 4th of July next week and major celebrations are planned.
Two of the resorts, Mammoth Mountain (pictured) and The Palisades in California, still have snow lying over 10 feet deep following huge winter accumulations. Their opening into July only happens occasionally.
“We still have good coverage at higher elevations, but the lower mountain near the base lodge is thin. Our crews have been hard at work moving more snow to cover up thin patches near the base,” a statement from The Palisades explains.
The third, Timberline on Mt Hood in Oregon, is used as a summer training ground by ski teams and is normally open through to August.
It’s the two Californian areas that are planning to go particularly large for Independence day.
For The Palisades their ‘Freedom Fest’ will mark the end of an eight-month 22-23 ski season, and runs from July 1-4.
“Get your last turns of the season, jam out to live music, and celebrate Independence Day in unforgettable fashion,” a resort spokesperson enthused.
For Mammoth they’re planning to stay open for skiing and boarding “…to the end of July.”
