US Boarder & Skier Duo Set New World Record For Most Resorts Skied/Boarded in 24 Hours

A boarder and a skier from the US state of Michigan believe they have broken the Guinness World Record for the most ski areas skied or boarded in a 24-hour period.

Kyle Kelly and Brad Dykstra drove 763 miles across the state of Michigan to ski at 22 ski areas over the final weekend of February, clocking up five more ski areas than the previous record of 17 set in Japan five years ago.

“Michigan is the perfect place to attempt this record,” Kelly said, adding that according to the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association (MSIA) no matter where you are in the state, you are within a two-hour drive of a ski area. Michigan is also tied with New York for the most ski areas in a state, MSIA say.

The pair began their attempt at noon on Saturday, Feb. 26, starting with Nub’s Nob Ski Area and  skied 14 areas in the following 12 hours. They then drove across the state, resuming at 3:45am  Sunday to ski the other eight areas finishing at Cannonsburg where they were met by friends and family at a victory celebration.

Kelly and Dykstra’s achievement has to be accepted by Guinness World Records.

“In order to complete this, we arrived at some of the ski areas during times when they aren’t open for skiing,” said Kelly, adding “We are truly thankful to all these resorts for going out of their way to accommodate us. Guinness requires a lot of documentation, photos, and videos.  It was amazing that we had people all along our route come out to help.”
