Southern Hemisphere Report
We’re approaching the final weekend of the Southern Hemisphere’s 2024 season. Chile’s Valle Nevado, the last area still open in the Andes and South America, ended its season after a two-week extension on Sunday. However, two New Zealand ski areas, both located on Mt. Ruapehu on the country’s North Island, are open for a final few days. Neither has much terrain left open—just a few kilometers of slopes—but with summer starting in just over a month, it’s great they can still offer something. Whakapapa (0/40cm / 0/16”) is open daily until this coming Sunday. Tūroa (0/97cm / 0/39”) is closed midweek but plans to reopen from Friday to Sunday for a final burst.
Southern Hemisphere Forecast
It’s mostly mild, with temperatures ranging from 0-13°C and sunny weather expected for most of the week, though it may rain over the final weekend.
