South American Resort Extends Snowtastic Season By 2 Weeks
Chile’s Valle Nevado is extending its season by two weeks and will now remain open for skiing until October 20, 2024.
Chile’s Valle Nevado is extending its season by two weeks and will now remain open for skiing until October 20, 2024. The move will make it one of the last in the southern hemisphere to complete its season, possibly the last, making 2024 one of the longest and most successful opening spans in the resort’s history.
Valle Nevado opened early on May 31, following record-breaking early season snowfall, and began daily operations on June 7, two weeks ahead of the scheduled date of June 21.
“With its higher elevation and favorable orientation, Valle Nevado is known for having the deepest and most reliable snowpack in the Southern Hemisphere,” said Ricardo Margulis, the resort's general manager, who added, "This season's snowfall has been exceptional, with nearly 22 feet of snow received since May. We are thrilled to extend our season by two weeks, allowing our guests more time to enjoy the incredible snow we’ve had this year.”
In 2024, Valle Nevado welcomed over 300,000 visitors, representing about one-third of all snow visitors in Chile. This season, the resort has maintained hotel occupancy rates above 90 percent, with international guests comprising over 80 percent of total visitors.
Strong partnerships with Ikon Pass, Power Pass, and Mountain Collective have significantly contributed to an increase in international visitors, particularly from North America.
Hotel Valle Nevado will close on September 22, with Puerta del Sol remaining open until October 13. Tres Puntas Hotel will also close on September 22.
"Although some of our hotel services will be winding down, the slopes will remain open for skiing until October 20, providing an extended opportunity for locals and day visitors to enjoy the mountain," added Margulis.
Valle Nevado will continue to operate daily from 9 am to 5 pm until October 20. The slopes, rental shop, ski school, Valle Lounge restaurant, and Valle Nevado Store will remain open through October 20.
