HOW TO: Using Snow Hindcast to View Past Weather Reports On Our Website

The feeling that comes with anticipating fresh powder on the slopes is one known only to those who depend on it for the serotonin and sense of escape that snow sports bring. The last thing our team at Snow Forecast want is for you to turn up to a rainy ski holiday without a snowy peak in sight, which is why we provide you with the best snow reports to minimise the chances of this happening.

But what if we could take that anticipation to the next level by diving into the rich history of snowfall at your favourite ski resorts? Thanks to technological advancements, both our website and app now offers a treasure trove of data, including the ability to look back at the weather history for specific ski resorts. In this guide, we'll explore how to leverage this feature to enhance your skiing experience.

Why is Weather History Important?

Before we delve into the practical steps of using the Hindcast feature, let's stop for a moment to appreciate why understanding snowfall history is so crucial for skiers and snowboarders alike. Weather patterns directly impact snow conditions, which, in turn, affect the quality of your skiing or snowboarding experience. By analyzing historical snowfall data, you can gain valuable insights into when the best powder days tend to occur, how much snow to expect during different parts of the season, and even the likelihood of experiencing certain weather phenomena like snowstorms or bluebird days.

Accessing the Hindcast feature via our Website

  • Firstly, navigate to the homepage of our website www.snow-forecast.com, and log in if you aren't already.
  • You will then need to use the dropdown function in the top left hand corner of the page to select the country and resort you would like to view. You can also use the Search function box in the top right hand corner to do this.
  • You will then be taken to your chosen resort page, where you can click on the 'scroll left for the last 6 days' button above the weather forecast map. This will allow you to view the past weather conditions for the previous week. If you click on the 'scroll left for the last 6 days' button, it will take you back another 6 days each time you click, so you can get a comprehensive view of what the conditions have been like during the season, which might be helpful in predicting the quality of snow in the coming weeks as well.
