Ski As Santa At Verbier
2,000 skier and boarders are expected to hit the slopes dressed as Saint-Nicolas (Santa) for Verbier's official season opener, raising funds for charity in the process.
The lifts are already turning above Verbier and the resort reported a fresh (30cm) of fresh snowfall in the past few days but the famous Swiss resort’s official annual season-opener is coming up on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
The idea is that skiers and boarders arrive dressed as Saint-Nicolas (Santa) and get reduced price lift passes, paying just 7 Swiss francs (8 USD) for a day’s skiing.
The result is the incredible sight of 2,000 Santas whizzing down Verbier’s slopes.
Part of the funds raised by skiers and boarders participating will be donated to the “Verbier4All” association which provides free winter and summer sports equipment for people with reduced mobility.
To add to the fun a free train from Geneva picks up siking Santas along the way from the main towns in the Lake Geneva region to Le Châble.
“Nothing better to kick off the season than a festive day on the slopes! The Opening Session is one of our most popular and successful annual events,” a Verbier spokesperson said.
Participation is limited and to take part you must register online before 29th November via the Verbier 4Vallées website. The event is always over subscribed.
