Brian Head ski resort in southern Utah is to add 850 skiable acres of terrain as part of a multi-year expansion plan.

The expansion is tied to Brian Head Town Council approving a plan to add 1,799 acres of land to the ski resort, of which about half will be used for new real-estate developments, half the ski area expansion.

Seven lifts are to be built as part of the expansion, including a multi-stage gondola, but some of these additions may be years away as the plans are reported to be long term.

Work on creating new ski slopes is reported to be already underway, but an opening date for the first phase of the expansion, which will make the resort the 7th largest in a state that’s already home to several of the largest ski areas in the US, has not yet been announced.

The plans also include a new beginners area, ice rink and tubing hill as well as a ski lodge, two base villages and a hotel.
