There continues to be a lone ski area still operating in North America. Timberline (0/200cm / 0/80”) on Mt Hood in Oregon is now, in fact, the only non-year-round centre still operating from the end of 2023 anywhere in the world. Another non-year-round ski area, Saas-Fee in the Swiss Alps, has already reopened after a two-month closure and started its nearly 10-month 24-25 season!
Timberline's Palmer snowfield, where there are a couple of miles of runs open and a terrain park, has seen another week of warm, predominantly sunny weather, with temperatures climbing up to the 60s and not cooling that much overnight.
Conditions remain at their best between 6 and 11 a.m., therefore. It's expected to stay open into August, although the warm weather impacts its base, particularly at the base of the runs, so there are no certainties. The only other lift-accessed July snow available is the indoor snow centre in New Jersey, Big Snow. A hike-to-summer terrain park at Copper Mountain in Colorado is open to the public from Fridays to Sundays.
USA FORECAST
The US West Coast will likely stay warm and sunny next week. Temperatures are expected to be in the 60s in the afternoons and not drop below 40F overnight, with the freezing point remaining well above the summit of the mountains.
