Mammoth Mountain Opening Into August

Mammoth Mountain Opening Into August

California’s Mammoth Mountain has announced it will stay open into August for only the third time in its 69 year history.

The decision follows huge snowfalls last winter which totalled more than 700 inches/20 metres. The snow is still lying about five feet (1.5 metres) deep.

The resort is open daily for skiing and boarding from around 7am to noon with just a few lifts still operating out of Main Lodge. Terrain remaining is suited to intermediate to advanced level skiers and boarders. Mountain biking and golf are also currently on offer.

Timberline Resort in Oregon is the only other centre still offering skiing and boarding to the public on its palmer Snowfield on Mt Hood.

Mammoth opened for its 22-23 season in November last year meaning it will make a nine-month ski season this year and close only about three months before the start of its 23-24 season, all being well.
