JAPAN REPORT
Another amazing week in Japan’s incredible 24-25 season with more of the country’s ski areas topping 6m (20 feet) bases and the first reporting it’s gone over 7 metres (23 feet). These are not only by far the deepest snow depths in the world this season but also the most posted anywhere for several seasons. Tengendai Kogen ski area in Yamagata Prefecture is the first to hit 710cm this winter. It says it plans to stay open to May 6th this year. The latest increase is, of course, due to another week of significant snowfalls on most days across the country. Almost all areas are currently 98-100% open. Niseko (165/375cm / 66/150”) is in the 100% club.

JAPAN FORECAST
There is often a fairly reliable point in the Japanese ski season when the snow stops falling relatively abruptly and we enter full spring. We may not be there quite yet but there seems to be much more sunshine in the forecast than in recent weeks and, though snowfall will continue, it looks like it will be much lighter. Temperatures still getting down to -10C and below on high slopes overnight but climbing to +5-8C in the afternoons at the village level.
