Wyoming’s iconic Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has partnering with leading a design and manufacturing company to repurpose old staff uniforms into a line of new retail products. The aim is to reduce some of the 13 million tons of American textile waste that ends up in landfills every year.

Ski resorts around the world have different ideas on what to do with old staff uniforms with other schemes including donations to sherpas in Nepal as well as to the homeless.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort began working with ReFleece earlier this year to remake the Resort’s used staff apparel into new items such as tote bags, zip pouches, throw blankets, pillows, holiday stockings, and wine totes that all boast the iconic Jackson Hole Mountain Resort logo.

“We are so excited to have found a purpose for our old uniforms as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our impact on the environment,” said Andrew Way, Chief Marketing Officer at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

ReFleece’s unique “end of life” process leverages the embedded value of the original gear by simply cutting and sewing the materials into new items, avoiding the environmental impact of high-energy recycling or re-dying.

All of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s uniforms are designed and manufactured by the Swiss mountaineering and trekking gear company Mammut. ReFleece has worked with a variety of leading outdoor apparel brands to divert used items from the waste stream and conserve resources.

“Each piece is unique. The fabric in these products is cut directly from the old JHMR uniforms, so you may find seams, color variations, and textures that tell the story of a great first life on the slopes of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort,” commented ReFleece Founder Sam Palmer.

The new items will be available at Jackson Hole Sports, Teton Village Sports, and the Resort Store, located on the Town Square. They will also be available online at JHMR’s new online gear store, launching this winter. The upcycled products will be available in person and online beginning Nov. 29, the first day of their 24-25 winter season.
