Huge Snowstorm Hitting Western North America
A massive snowstorm is moving into North America’s Pacific Coast. The US National Weather Service has issued a four day blizzard warning from Thursday through Sunday morning with heavy snowfall warning, along with gale force winds.
The forecasts are for up to 8 feet (2.4 metres) in California by the start of next week and come after werst coast resorts posted up to 10 feet (3m) of snowfall already this February – more than most received in November to January.
“We are going to work hard to open as much of the mountain as we can, but ultimately our number one priority is the safety of our employees and our guests, so that will be guiding all decisions we make,” said a spokesperson for Heavenly Mountain ski area (pictured above), adding, “We expect significant operational impacts in the coming days. We really appreciate your patience while our teams will be digging out lifts, performing avalanche mitigation work, de-icing chairlifts, clearing and preparing parking lots, and a whole lot more. …Mother Nature is calling the shots this weekend so we will continue evaluating conditions. If you plan to join us over the coming days, please ski or ride with a friend, be wary of tree wells, do not duck any ropes, and stay safe.”
The Pacifiv Northwest corner of North America including BC’s Pacific Coast and ski areas in Washington state, which have had a very poor winter for snowfall to date, are already seeing some of their best snowfalls of the season so far with the continent’s largest ski area, Whistler Blackcomb, posting a half-metre snowfall in the last 12 hours, one of its biggest of the season to date.
