Fresh Snowfall Meets Fall Colours as Snowmaking Starts in Rockies

Ski resorts in Colorado and Utah have been posting some stunning images of fresh fallen snow as the leaves change to fall colours over the past few days.

The snowfall has raised anticipation levels with the hope that the first ski area to open in North America for the 23-24 season will announce its lifts have started turning in a matter of weeks.

Currently the only lift served snow skiing is at the indoor Big Snow centre in New Jersey, but that hasn’t stopped keen skiers and boarders hiking up to make first turns. Tracks were spotted at Mammoth mountain in California which only ended its 22-23 season less than two months ago and where fresh snow fell on a patch still lying from last winter. In Colorado, Silverton invited some of its ski patrollers to enjoy the freshs now fallen there, and posted images including this one.

Meanwhile other Colorado resorts including Arapahoe Basin and Loveland have began snowmaking to build a base for their first runs of the season, having reported temperatures dropping well below freezing overnight. Loveland pictured this week.
