After launching in Spain’s Baqueira Beret earlier this month, the 2025 Freeride World Tour is back for its second stop with a return to France after several years.
The world’s best freeriders will take on the breathtaking Lac Noir face in Val Thorens, promising an epic showdown of skill and creativity, this Wednesday, January 29th.
The competition will take place on the spectacular Lac Noir face, known for its technical and playful terrain. Standing tall with a summit altitude of 2,500 meters and a finish line at 2,010 meters, it is set to offer one of the season's most exciting and technical freeride venues.
“This dreamy face is a haven for freeriders, boasting an average steepness of 37 degrees and a maximum pitch of 43 degrees. Constant snowfalls over the past week have blanketed the mountain in deep powder, setting the stage for an explosion of turns, incredible jumps, and soft landings that will undoubtedly elevate the riders' performance,” an FWT spokesperson enthused.
The venue begins from a wide ridge, offering a playground of possibilities. With its natural terrain movements, big rock features, and a ridge with countless line options, Lac Noir is a canvas for creativity. Divided into three distinct stages, the venue provides a mix of challenges and opportunities that will test the riders' skills and orientation. Rollovers and terrain transitions create moments of difficulty, requiring precise navigation and control. Starting with an immediate jump off the ridge, competitors will have to bring their A-game from the very first moment.
For snowboarders, the conditions are particularly thrilling, and many have expressed their excitement about leading the competition on this face. Feedback from forerunners has been overwhelmingly positive, praising the snow quality and the variety of features. Riders are already stoked, energized by the promise of big lines, playful turns, and endless opportunities to push their limits.
