Bulgarian Ski Resort Plans To Thank Country’s Medics With Free Ski Holiday
Bulgaria’s largest ski area, Bansko, will be offering free ski holiday weekends next winter to the country’s medics who are working to fight COVID-19.
The ski area’s operating company Ulen has announced a special partnership with Bansko Municipality and the Alliance for Promotion and Development of Tourism in Bansko, as well as different hoteliers in the resort, to provide free weekend break next winter to all medics in Bulgaria who are fighting on the front line against COVID-19.
The free holiday packages for the next winter 2020-21 will include free accommodation in hotels, free meals, free ski passes and, if needed, free ski lessons and free ski equipment rental.
“Through this initiative we want to show our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, ambulance crews and volunteers for their commitment and courage. We are proud to support the medics who have been working now for more than two months without a break. We want to welcome them as our special guests”, said Ivan Obreykov, marketing director of “Ulen”, concessionaire of the Bansko ski area, who added,
“This donation is part of our contribution to the society and in particular to the country’s healthcare system in the fight to limit the spread of COVID-19.”
Bansko was one of the hardest-hit areas in the country by the virus and the only town in Bulgaria that was completely blocked under a 14-day quarantine due to the pandemic.
That period is now over however and the lockdown in Bulgaria caused by the global pandemic will be lifted on Wednesday, 13th May.
The resort is the first in the country to decide to thank the country’s medics in this way. Cortina in Italy has also announced a similar initiative for Italian medics.
Bansko was voted Bulgaria’s Best Ski Resort for the seventh consecutive year in the annual World Ski Awards and The International Ski Federation (FIS) has once again chosen the small Bulgarian town to host the Men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup (Super G and GS) next winter, due to take place on February 27th and 28th, 2021.
In addition, from March 1st to March 10th, 2021 for the first time Bansko will host the U21 World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships.
