It’s not been the snowiest week in Japan compared to most this season but temperatures have remained cold and there has been plenty of snowfall still, compared to much of the rest of the skiing world. Arai Resort (200/460cm / 80/184”) is the first in the world to pass the 4.5m (15 feet) base depth for the season this weekend is one of a growing number of Japanese ski areas to post 4m+ base depths. Niseko (140/290cm / 52/116”) reports all of its slopes open and excellent conditions on and off the groomed terrain. The start of this week has seen plenty of sunshine on the slopes but temperatures have remained well below freezing on the slopes.
JAPAN FORECAST
After a few dry days, moderate to heavy snowfall is forecast for many areas through the latter half of this week and into the weekend. Temperatures will remain well below freezing much of the time, predominantly in the -5 to -15C range.
