Arizona Ski Area Opening In June for First Time Ever
The Arizona Snowbowl has announced they’ll be opening in June for the first time in their history.
The Arizona Snowbowl has announced they’ll be opening in June for the first time in their history.
The ski area had already extended their season on weekends through May after a big snowfall at the end of April to match their previous longest ever season, but 23-24 swill now be their longest ever.
“Conditions are still incredible across the mountain after receiving 281 inches of snowfall this season and 55 of those inches falling in April alone. The 2023/2024 winter season now takes the lead as Snowbowl’s longest ski season in history,” an Arizona Snowbowl spokesperson said.
Nine US ski areas are still open in six states, more than any other country at present, but most of these plan to close after the Memorial Day holiday on Monday.
With the Beartooth Basin summer ski area not opening this year (blaming too little snow) and resorts like Mammoth Mountain that stayed open into August last year deciding to end their season on Monday, it means that the Arizona Snowbowl will be one of just three or four in the country still open in June.
“We will be open for skiing and snowboarding on Memorial Day weekend, (Friday, May 24th – Monday, May 27th) and then will reopen on Saturday, June 1st for the latest closing date Snowbowl and the state of Arizona have ever seen,” the spokesperson added.
The resort’s Arizona Gondola will be the only lift spinning for both Memorial Day weekend and closing day, offering access to advanced terrain. Lift tickets will be available for as low as $19 when purchased online and in advance.
